Japanese Asset Management company seeks a Risk Officer (Asset Management/ Middle& Back-office operations).

Title: Risk Officer (Asset Management/ Middle& Back-office operations)

>> Position Summary
Company is expanding its business and now needs to internalize the risk management functions previously handled by our Tokyo headquarters. To support this transition, we are looking to hire a Risk Officer to establish our own risk management framework.

The primary responsibility of this role will be investment risk management. Additionally, this person will oversee operational risk management related to the overall business operations. As our business grows, middle- and back-office operations, particularly for fixed income portfolios, will increase, and the Risk Officer will manage these responsibilities concurrently.

As a Risk Officer (Asset Management/ Middle& Back-office operations), you will ensure adherence to the highest standards of risk management while overseeing essential middle and back office operations. This dual-role involves identifying, assessing, and mitigating investment risks, and managing operational processes for our funds. You will work closely with the investment team, President, and the parent company in Japan to align risk management strategies and ensure compliance with global standards. Effective communication and collaboration with local staff, including the Chief Compliance Officer, external partners, auditors, and regulatory authorities, are essential. >> Key Responsibilities
> Risk Management:
Develop and implement risk management policies and processes tailored to the company.
Identify, assess, monitor, and report on investment risks.
Ensure alignment with the parent company's risk management policies and apply them effectively.
Prepare and submit regular risk assessment reports to senior management if needed.
Propose and implement risk mitigation strategies to safeguard the company’s assets.

> Middle and Back Office Operations:
Provide all back-office operational functions, including trade processing, settlement, reconciliation, reporting, and corporate actions.
Manage daily operations related to investment trusts and funds, ensuring smooth and efficient processes.
Manage relationships with custodians, counterparties, and service providers to ensure timely and accurate processing of transactions.
Handle audit responses and compliance checks, ensuring all regulatory requirements are met.
Analyze and report on investment performance, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
Maintain and update operational data for investment trusts and funds to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Support the launch of new funds/portfolios.

> Communication:
Coordinate and report to the President and the parent company in Japan, ensuring transparency and alignment.
Collaborate and share information with local staff including the Chief Compliance Officer to facilitate effective operations.
Interact with external partners, auditors, and regulatory authorities, representing the company professionally.

>> Qualifications
> Education:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in finance, accounting, business, economics, or a related field.
> Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in risk management
Middle/back office operations in asset management field are preferred.
Proven knowledge and experience in asset management industry.

> Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of identifying and mitigating risks.
Proficiency in data management tools such as Excel, VBA, SQL.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
Fluency in both Japanese and English, essential for conducting business in both languages.

> Certifications:
Relevant certifications such as CFA, FRM are preferred.

Other:
High ethical standards and compliance awareness.
Team player with the ability to work independently and take initiative.

Annual Base Salary Range
$80,000 to $120,000
