  Pro Action of Steuben and Yates, Inc. was established in 1965 with a mission to combat poverty and improve the quality of life for low-income individuals and families in Steuben and Yates counties. Over the years, the organization has evolved to meet the changing needs of the community. The agency's philosophy in addressing poverty has also evolved, incorporating evidence-based practices and holistic approaches to better serve the community.

  Pro Action’s Head Start is looking for a 12-month Support Staff to provide support for our  Hornell  classroom.

Summary of job duties

• Assist in supporting social and emotional development and providing positive guidance.
• Supervise and interact with children during planned classroom activities such as indoor/outdoor play, large or small group instruction, circle time, mealtimes, clean up, etc.
• Make on-going observations of children’s development and maintain anecdotal records.

Ideal skills

• Basic organizational and basic math skills.
• Communication and language skills to comprehend documents and other correspondence.
• Basic computer skills with basic knowledge of Excel Microsoft office and other office equipment such as copier, scanner, fax etc...
• Ability to interact with customers from a variety of backgrounds.
• Capability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written and oral form.

Job Requirement

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience will be considered.

The ideal candidate must have a valid driver’s license, meeting agency standards per position and consistent, reliable transportation that will allow regular travel in and around the service area.
