Engineer
The Engineer is responsible for daily maintenance of all building controls (BMS), HVAC troubleshooting and light maintenance, light MEP as well as exhibition lighting in the galleries as needed. Responsibilities includes the same at all Whitney locations including Bulwark and ISP. This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement between the Museum and the AFL-CIO International Union of Operating Engineers Local 30 and 30A.
Responsibilities:
Oversees all facilities /engineering needs at assigned facilities
Provides weekly updates including recommendations for HVAC and MEP improvement and communicates with Facilities Management staff, site manager, Service Contractors, Art Handling staff and Exhibition Managers and other departments during frequently planned meeting to ensure that conservation standards HVAC standards, life safety, and aesthetic lighting requirements are met.
Accompany maintenance crews on each service visit to ensure that efficiency, consistency, and climate controls are met.
Maintains a well-organized inventory of tools, equipment and supplies needed for building maintenance.
Coordinates with Engineering Manager and/or Director of Engineering to obtain all necessary equipment and purchases (including spear part to meet service needs.
Coordinates PM work with other departments and consistently provide a clean and safe work environment.
Become familiar with building operation including; shut-off valves, fire alarm/Vesda system, boiler system, HVAC units and overall building performance. Performs other duties assigned by the Engineering Manager and/or Director of Engineering.
When not performing these duties at the primary assigned building, this position will be eligible for overtime at all Whitney locations and will adhere to the engineer’s regular duties and responsibilities per Local-30 contract and as assigned.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of HVAC and MEP
- Q-99 Refrigerating System Operating Engineer license
Professional experience as an operations Engineer
Basic electrical and wiring skills, ability to diagnose issues and follow building code
Ability to operate lifts required to perform tasks
Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the work
Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills
Engineer must be personally vigilant and as the ability to oversee the work of others at all Whitney locations/spaces, ensuring that surfaces are protected and that art is never in danger.
Compensation and Benefits:
