Director, Sustainability - Net Zero (North American Zone)

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Reporting to the Chief Sustainability Officer, this role will lead our Net Zero program implementation for the US. This role will partner cross-functionally with senior leaders and business team specialists across L’Oréal USA and Caribe, leveraging best practices and insights with Groupe HQ and our Canadian zone colleagues to drive our Net Zero ambition across the US and Caribe organizations. This role will be responsible to organize the work (including stakeholder engagement and governance), identify high-impact areas of focus (and the practical work associated) and providing solution initiatives, tools and partners that drive progress on L’Oréal for the Future ambitions and environmental impact agenda in the US. More specifically, the Director, Net Zero role is responsible for conceptualizing the framework for achieving net zero zone-level commitments in the US and Caribe (with an initial focus on POS/Promo and Media decarbonization), and related L4TF zone-level commitments; developing the roadmaps for implementation and execution of these initiatives in partnership with various internal stakeholders; leading, organizing, and coordinating transversal taskforces as required to achieve zone goals; providing thought-leadership and technical expertise on sustainability topics for the US; advising internal leadership on priority sustainability issues and progress; building strategic partnerships with important external stakeholders; designing and driving solutions for ambitious sustainability programs; and importantly ensuring the right systems and data for measuring and reporting progress. This is a cross-functional leadership role that will require collaboration, resilience, optimism, creative problem-solving and a solutions-first mindset. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES L’Oreal For the Future Program Management Lead and manage L’Oreal US Net Zero program and performance.
- Center of Excellence: Generate and provide thought-leadership and technical expertise on Net Zero topics.
- KPIs: Oversee and facilitate zone KPIs, including timelines, roadmaps, and data roll-ups for ESG reporting and compliance for local and global reporting requirements and analytics.
- Solutions: Develop and implement solutions for achieving sustainability goals across relevant categories and KPIs (i.e., identify projects, develop pilots, and test-and-learns with technology and innovation, incorporate best practices into areas of challenge).
- Environmental Research & Support: create ad-hoc research, synthesize data collection and information, manage meeting support and analysis drafting.
- Reporting: Report sustainability progress & updates to U.S., and international management and business leaders and provide recommendations whenever there are issues hindering progress.
- Management: Lead and manage with empathy and authenticity a team responsible for executing programs that drive sustainability results in support of net zero and sustainability ambitions, prioritizing psychological safety.
- Nature: Support the development, execution, and revision as necessary of a strategy and implementation plan to incorporate nature goals and programs into net zero strategy.
- Climate: Partner with internal teams and support the development and execution as necessary the North America zone scope 1, 2, and 3 decarbonization strategy, including partnering with the sourcing team to enable suppliers, and the operations team on renewable energy initiatives.
- Circularity: Partner with internal teams and support the development and execution as necessary the North America zone circularity strategy and relevant programs, ensuring a net zero lens on roadmap development.
- Embed environmental justice considerations throughout the net zero strategy.
- Generate, progress and monitor roadmaps for key zone categories such as scope 1 and 2, media and digital, POS/Promo, transportation and logistics, packaging, raw materials.
- Collaborate with teams across the business to integrate and execute sustainability goals and strategy execution into business operations, processes, and culture.
- Advise leadership on status/progress, etc. and develop and/or support development of communication resources and materials.
- Serve as SME for joint retailer business plans strategy, program development and execution of joint retailer business plans, including various retailer badging programs.
- Support Cradle-to-Cradle certifications strategy and program.
- Serve as SME for transversal working groups and taskforces, as well as individual business teams, on decarbonization efforts, nature initiatives, and circularity programs.
- Develop materials and host internal upskilling sessions to embed sustainability into day-to-day business as needed.
- Represent L’Oreal in broader industry and relevant stakeholder forums and engagements.
- Cultivate and reinforce a network of key external relationships with the purpose of developing strategic partnerships, staying current with emerging sustainability trends, and assessing implications of changing corporate sustainability trend landscape.
- SME for external suppliers as requested.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Master’s degree in sustainability, sustainable development or environmental sciences preferred.
- Experience developing and operationalizing sustainability strategies and roadmaps.
- At least 10 years of experience working in the sustainability or environmental space (can include years in advanced academic setting).
- Proven ability to collaborate and drive complex, transversal projects internally and externally with key stakeholders, including NGOs and academic institutions.
- Team player with the highest ethical standards and an inclusive approach to work and talent.
- Strong analytical and strategic development skills.
- Strong written, oral and presentation skills.
- Strong project management skills, including developing project plan, monitoring and meeting milestones, time management, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, be proactive, and adapt quickly in a fast-paced and results-driven environment.
- Interest and curiosity for technical topics around sustainability, including emerging topics.
- Salary Range: $138,500-$200,800 (The actual compensation will depend on a variety of job-related factors which may include geographic location, work experience, education, and skill level)
