Position Overview
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing, reviewing, and overseeing electrical systems within commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects. This role bridges engineering design, coordination, and field execution, ensuring that electrical installations adhere to specifications, code requirements, and project constraints (budget, schedule, quality, safety). They work closely with project managers, estimators, site superintendents, and subcontractors to deliver reliable, compliant electrical systems.

Position Responsibilities
- Develop or review electrical system designs, single-line diagrams, power distribution, lighting, grounding, short-circuit and fault current calculations.
- Prepare electrical layout drawings, conduit routing, panel schedules, load calculations, and coordination studies.
- Check vendor submittals and equipment selections (transformers, switchgear, panels, motors, controls).
- Ensure designs meet applicable codes (NEC / local codes), standards and client specifications.
- Coordinate with other trades (mechanical, plumbing, structural, HVAC) to resolve clashes, routing, and interface issues.
- Participate in project kickoff and technical reviews to identify key electrical risks, long-lead items, and dependencies.
- Visit job sites to review progress, troubleshoot field issues, and confirm installations align with design intent.
- Provide technical guidance to site staff, electricians, and subcontractors.
- Inspect, test, and commission electrical systems; witness testing, perform inspections, and generate punch lists.
- Maintain and issue drawing revisions, revisions log, as-built documentation, redlines, and change notices.
- Prepare technical reports, system narratives, calculation packages, and compliance documentation.
- Manage quality assurance / quality control reviews for electrical work, including checking work by subcontractors.
- Identify technical, procurement, or system risks early; propose mitigation strategies.
- Track critical long-lead items and work with purchasing to monitor delivery.
- Support project management on schedule adherence and change order evaluation where electrical scope is affected.
Here’s What We’re Looking For
- 1-5 years of experience as an electrical engineer in construction, MEP contracting, or electrical contracting.
- Solid background in power distribution, lighting systems, controls, and electrical equipment.
- Experience with design software (AutoCAD, Revit Electrical, ETAP, SKM, or similar) and electrical calculation tools.
- Strong knowledge of NEC, local electrical codes, standards (IEEE, NEMA, UL).
- Competency in load calculations, coordination studies, fault analysis, voltage drop studies, short circuit analysis.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and RFP documents.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), able to interface with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Problem solving, analytical thinking, and a methodical attention to detail.
- Capability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and adapt to field changes.
- Proficiency with modeling, calculation software, spreadsheets (Excel) and drawing/document management systems.
Preferred, Not Mandatory:
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred (or ability to obtain) in relevant jurisdiction.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification (if early-career).
- Continuing education or training in code updates, safety, or specialized electrical systems is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (or equivalent).
