Artifacts is a nonprofit digital platform () bringing the radical histories of avant-garde, queer, and underground culture to new audiences through long-form oral history films. Working in collaboration with institutions including NYU Skirball, BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music), Giorno Poetry Systems, Anthology Film Archives , and the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center , Artifacts operates at the intersection of archival preservation, storytelling, and contemporary digital media.

As Artifacts scales rapidly across social platforms, we’re seeking a highly proactive, data-driven Social Media Video Editor & Manager to own our social output end-to-end. This role combines sharp editorial instincts, strong short-form video editing skills, and a clear understanding of how content performs differently across platforms.

This is a hands-on position for someone who can cut compelling social-first videos, write punchy, accurate captions, and use analytics to drive real audience growth. You’ll report to the Creative Director, but you will run Artifacts’ social channels with a high degree of autonomy.

This role is primarily remote , with weekly team check-ins and occasional in-person requirements in NYC for meetings, events, or content coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

Video Editing & Social Content Creation

  • Edit long-form interview footage into high-impact, short-form clips optimized for: Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, X (Twitter) & Facebook
  • Execute consistent, high-quality formatting:
  • Vertical-first edits
  • Drop-down B-roll imagery
  • Accurate subtitles and captions
  • Updated end-cards directing viewers to YouTube
  • Maintain a steady, reliable weekly output aligned with platform best practices and performance trends.

Social Copywriting

  • Write accurate, engaging, and punchy social media captions, hooks, and titles designed to maximize watch time, reach, and engagement.
  • Develop and maintain a distinctive Artifacts voice that feels intelligent, confident, and culturally fluent.
  • Adapt tone and structure for different platforms while preserving a cohesive brand identity.
  • Respond calmly, efficiently, and professionally to editorial feedback and revisions.

Social Content Planning, Scheduling & Execution

  • Own the monthly social media calendar from planning through execution.
  • Schedule and publish posts using Hootsuite , ensuring smooth cross-platform delivery.
  • Ensure social content consistently reflects and amplifies Artifacts’ institutional partnerships, public programs, and platform releases at .
  • Align content with:
  • New film releases
  • Institutional partnerships and events
  • Birthdays, anniversaries, and key cultural dates
  • Fundraising and end-of-year moments
  • Proactively flag gaps, request edits, and adjust schedules as needed.

Social Collaborations & Audience Growth

  • Identify and research potential social media collaborators (archives, institutions, creators, interest accounts, cultural pages).
  • Coordinate collaborative posts and manage outreach.
  • Track collaboration activity and outcomes in a structured system.

Data-Driven Strategy

A core part of this role.

  • Use analytics from Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, and Hootsuite to guide decisions.
  • Identify performance trends and translate insights into actionable strategy.
  • Track what works, refine what doesn’t, and replicate high-performing formats.
  • Deliver clear, concise performance summaries on a regular basis.

Qualifications

  • Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro .
  • Strong experience editing social-first vertical video.
  • Familiarity with Hootsuite for scheduling and analytics.
  • Deep understanding of how content behaves differently across platforms.
  • Excellent writing skills, with a sharp eye for clarity, tone, and pacing.
  • Highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable working independently.
  • Ability and willingness to quickly learn avant-garde, queer, and underground cultural history.
  • Comfort receiving and implementing editorial feedback efficiently.
  • Prior experience independently managing or scaling social accounts preferred.

  • Social platforms that clearly communicate Artifacts’ role as a trusted cultural archive, driving traffic back to our YouTube Channel, and institutional collaborations.
  • A consistent, on-time monthly content calendar.
  • Clear growth across key metrics (reach, engagement, watch time, followers).
  • A steady pipeline of polished, platform-appropriate social clips.
  • A confident, recognizable Artifacts voice across all platforms.
  • Minimal supervision required—this role is proactive, not reactive.
