Construction Project Accountant

We are seeking an experienced Construction Project Accountant to support a large-scale, ground-up residential construction project in NYC. This role reports directly to the Project Executive (PX) and works closely with Project Managers and the broader project team to ensure accurate financial reporting, cost control, and accounting system integrity.

The ideal candidate has strong NYC ground-up construction experience, is highly detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Qualifications

Required:

• 3–8 years of experience as a Construction Project Accountant on ground-up construction projects in NYC
• Experience working for a General Contractor or Construction Manager
• Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, cost controls, and project financial management
• Demonstrated expertise in cost coding structures, job cost reporting, and cost-to-complete analysis
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

• Experience on projects in excess of $25MM
• Experience supporting large-scale residential and/or mixed-use construction projects
• Experience mentoring and developing junior accounting staff
• Experience with system implementation, upgrades, or workflow optimization

Responsibilities

• Manage all project-level accounting functions, including accounts payable, general ledger activity, and month-end close support
• Prepare and maintain Hard Cost and Soft Cost budgets, including job cost tracking, cost-to-complete analysis, and variance reporting
• Monitor project expenditures against approved budgets and proactively identify cost issues or discrepancies
• Review general ledger activity, cost codes, and aging reports for accuracy and budget alignment
• Create, maintain, and track Purchase Orders (POs), ensuring proper cost coding and budget compliance
• Review and process vendor and subcontractor invoices, verifying quantities, rates, and contract values
• Coordinate with Project Managers and vendors to resolve invoice discrepancies
• Maintain accurate, organized, and audit-ready accounting records and documentation
• Process employee expense reports in accordance with company policy
• Manage subcontractor payment applications, including lien waivers, insurance certificates, and compliance documentation
• Prepare and process General Contractor (GC) requisitions and submit master requisitions to the Developer
• Manage requisition workflows in Textura, including setup, tracking, approvals, and payment processing
• Coordinate change order tracking with Project Managers to ensure proper cost coding and budget alignment
• Support project reporting and present financial summaries to leadership
• Assist with project closeout, including financial reconciliation and turnover documentation
• Support implementation and optimization of accounting systems and workflows
• Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff

• Sage 300 – advanced job cost accounting, AP processing, and reporting
• Microsoft Excel (advanced), Word, Outlook

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
• Ability to work in both office and active construction site environments as required

Schedule

• Full-time, on-site
• Standard business hours with flexibility as required to support project needs
