Downtown NY property and casualty defense law firm seeks a Litigation Associate with 2+ years' experience to become a part of our team! You will represent clients in legal proceedings, draw up legal documents, and advise clients on legal transactions.
Responsibilities:
- Represent insurance companies and their insured in a variety of legal matters, including personal injury, property damage, and commercial claims.
- Investigate and evaluate claims to determine the extent of insurance coverage and potential liability.
- Prepare legal pleadings, motions, briefs, and other court documents in compliance with applicable rules and deadlines.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to develop effective defense strategies and case evaluations.
- Negotiate settlements and participate in alternative dispute resolution processes, such as mediation and arbitration.
- Communicate regularly with clients, witnesses, and other parties involved in litigation.
- Collaborate with other attorneys, paralegals, and support staff to ensure efficient case management.
- Attend court proceedings, hearings, depositions, and trials as necessary.
- Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in insurance law and the legal field.
Qualifications:
- Current active license to practice law in New York and/or New Jersey
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in insurance defense litigation, with a proven track record of success.
- Strong understanding of insurance law, civil procedure, and litigation process.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Outstanding negotiation and communication abilities.
- Experience in NY Labor Law, premises liability and complex litigation a plus.
- Must be familiar with handling matters from inception to conclusion in general liability defense litigation, construction accidents, property damage, and premises liability.
NJ admission in addition to NY a plus.
