The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking a Psychiatrist for the Student and Trainee Mental Health Program (STMH).
The Student and Trainee Mental Health (STMH) Program at Mount Sinai is seeking a dynamic physician to join our expanding team. Situated on the Upper East Side of New York City, adjacent to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, STMH is a unique and rewarding program that evaluates and treats medical students, house-staff (residents and fellows), graduate students, and postdoctoral trainees from programs across the Mount Sinai Health System. STMH has grown significantly in the past few years, in keeping with our mission of expanding in-house access to high quality, evidence-based mental health care for our students and trainees.
This is a full-time, outpatient position with a mix of on-site and remote/tele-health work, with late hours on at least 2 days of the week, to meet the needs of the population we serve. There are no on-call responsibilities. The position is available from July 2026.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Staff Psychiatrist/Assistant Professor
Service: Student and Trainee Mental Health program - Outpatient
Purpose of Position:

Provide psychiatric evaluations and treatments in an outpatient faculty practice for Mount Sinai Health System students (medical and graduate), post-doctoral trainees, and house-staff, ensuring appropriate longitudinal care.
Qualifications
-
MD or DO degree; completion of an ACGME-accredited psychiatry residency program; and be board certified/board eligible for General Adult Psychiatry
-
New York State medical license
-
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to work as a member of a team
-
Excellent clinical and psychopharmacological knowledge
-
Training/experience working with a student population is desired
-
Experience working with specialized populations - such as individuals with substance use-related problems, individuals with ADHD, and/or other specific conditions
-
Experience working with the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities
-
Interest/training in specific psychotherapeutic modalities is preferred
-
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of individuals/groups

Understanding of best practices in diagnostic evaluations, psychotherapy, and pharmacotherapy

Bi-lingual/multi-lingual applicants are encouraged to apply

Excellent writing and computer skills, and ability to manage responsibilities of timely documentation in an electronic health record

Compensation range from 240K to 280K (not including bonuses / incentive compensation or benefits)

Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialties, historical productivity, historical collections, and hospital/community need. As such, an actual salary may fall closer to one or the other end of the range, and in certain circumstances, may wind up being outside of the listed salary range. The salary range listed is for full-time employment and does not include bonuses / incentive compensation or benefits.
