Summer Program Counselor

Position Title: Program Counselor

Location: Webster Montessori School, Webster, NY

Employment Type: Seasonal (Summer) Part-time and Full-time positions available

Employment Dates: End of June through End of August Schedule: Monday-Friday (8:00-5:00 timeframe)

Position Overview:

The Program Counselor is responsible for caring for and engaging young campers ages 3+ (primary focus of 3-5 year olds) in a safe, nurturing, and structured environment. This role focuses on supporting early childhood development through play, routine and positive guidance.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

● Supervise and ensure the safety of campers at all times

● Lead age-appropriate activities such as arts and crafts, music, storytelling, sensory play, and outdoor games

● Assist campers with basic needs, including bathroom routines, handwashing, and snack/lunch time

● Maintain a consistent daily schedule to provide structure and comfort

● Use positive behavior management techniques to guide social interactions

● Help campers develop social skills such as sharing, cooperation, and communication

● Monitor emotional well-being and provide comfort as needed (e.g., separation anxiety)

● Communicate with supervisors about needs, behaviors, or concerns

● Keep activity areas clean, organized, and safe

Qualifications:

● Minimum age requirement: 18+

● Experience working with young children (preschool, daycare, babysitting, etc.) strongly preferred

● Patience, energy, and enthusiasm for working with early learners

● Basic understanding of early childhood development

● Ability to stay calm, attentive, and responsive in a fast-paced environment

Working Conditions:

● Active role requiring constant supervision and interaction

● Combination of indoor and outdoor activities

● Frequent bending, lifting (light), and assisting young children

Compensation:

● Hourly wage: Starting at $16.00 per hour, based on experience
