Director of Compliance and Risk Management

The Director of Compliance and Risk Management is responsible for leading the organization’s corporate compliance, enterprise risk management, and governance support functions. This role ensures adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements while promoting organizational accountability, operational consistency, and proactive risk awareness.

The Director serves as a key strategic partner to executive leadership by identifying, assessing, and mitigating organizational risks and ensuring alignment between regulatory expectations, operational practices, and agency priorities. This position provides oversight of the Corporate Compliance Department, supports agency investigations and audits, and prepares compliance and risk‑related reports for executive leadership and Board committees.

Pay Rate: 102,670.00 - 107,870.00 Salary; Based on years of experience


RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Lead the organization’s Corporate Compliance Program to ensure adherence to applicable federal, state, and local regulations while supporting safe, high‑quality services
  • Supervise compliance and risk management staff and ensure effective monitoring, investigations, documentation, and follow‑up
  • Partner with department leadership to communicate compliance findings, risk trends, and corrective actions
  • Provide training, guidance, and technical assistance to promote regulatory compliance, operational consistency, and continuous improvement
  • Serve as the primary liaison with oversight and regulatory agencies, coordinating audits, surveys, investigations, and required reporting
  • Oversee internal investigations, corrective action planning, and resolution of compliance concerns, including coordination with legal counsel and insurance carriers as needed
  • Lead the organization’s Enterprise Risk Management program, including risk assessments and mitigation strategies integrated into planning and decision‑making
  • Prepare and present compliance, risk, and governance updates for executive leadership and Board committees
  • Oversee organizational policies, SOPs, records management, and contract review processes to support compliance and risk mitigation
  • Support strategic planning initiatives by aligning compliance and risk management considerations with organizational priorities
  • Chair or participate in agency committees related to compliance, risk management, quality assurance, and governance
  • Serve as a member of the Executive Management Team and promote a culture of accountability, ethical practice, and quality of life
REQUIREMENTS :
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Accounting, Law, or a related field required; Master’s degree or Juris Doctor (JD) preferred
  • Seven to ten years of progressive experience in compliance, risk management, healthcare administration, nonprofit leadership, or a closely related field preferred, with demonstrated experience working in regulated environments
  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory frameworks relevant to New York State, including the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) and the New York State Education Department, strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, governance, and enterprise risk management principles, with the ability to apply them in complex organizational settings
  • Proven ability to analyze organizational, operational, and regulatory risks and translate findings into practical mitigation strategies
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience, including cross‑departmental collaboration and influence at the executive level
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex compliance and risk issues clearly and effectively
  • High level of judgment, integrity, discretion, and professionalism
