Senior Data Engineer - Podcast

The Podcast Mission is Spotify’s product and technology team dedicated to building the best tools for podcast creators. We own the platforms, tools, and features that empower podcasters to host (for free!), create, and distribute their episodes, while also helping them earn money, grow their audience, and engage their communities. As part of this mission, you’ll contribute to shaping the data systems that power insights, analytics, and experiences for creators and listeners alike.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you’ll be at the core of how Spotify’s podcast ecosystem leverages data. You’ll design and build pipelines and datasets that fuel analytics for creators and publishers. You’ll work hands-on with distributed data systems to enable sub-second, reliable analytics at scale.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and scale data pipelines that power creator and publisher analytics across Spotify’s podcast ecosystem.
• Develop and optimize real-time and batch ingestion systems that can handle data at Spotify scale.
• Build and maintain core domain datasets (e.g., Consumption, Monetization, Audience Growth) and ensure they’re accurate, reliable, and trusted.
• Work with distributed data serving systems (like Apache Druid and BigTable) to deliver sub-second analytics without pre-aggregations.
• Implement automated checks and monitoring for data quality, freshness, and compliance.
• Create reusable tooling, templates, and documentation that make other engineers more productive and enable self-serve analytics.
• Collaborate with product managers, analysts, and engineers across missions to translate requirements into scalable data solutions.
• Contribute to shaping the data platform’s future by bringing new ideas, simplifying workflows, and mentoring peers.

Who You Are

• You’re an experienced data engineer who thrives on building pipelines that handle massive scale in both batch and real-time.
• You love working with data at the intersection of SQL and distributed serving systems (think Druid, BigTable, or similar) to unlock lightning-fast analytics.
• You think beyond one-off solutions - you design platforms, not just pipelines, creating systems that are reusable, scalable, and built to last.
• Data quality isn’t just a checkbox for you - it’s a priority. You build with trust, governance, and reliability at the core, and you know how to automate for peace of mind.
• You enjoy owning data domains end-to-end and collaborating closely with product managers, analysts, and engineers to turn complex needs into simple, scalable solutions.
• You’re a strong communicator and a team player who shares knowledge, mentors others, and makes those around you better.
• Bonus: You’ve worked in domain-centric models and have hands-on experience enabling self-serve analytics for cross-functional teams.

Where You'll Be

• We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! For this role, you can be within the North Americas region as long as we have a work location.
• This team operates within the Eastern Standard time zone for collaboration.

The United States base range for this position is $ 125,561- $ 179,374, plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, a monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays. These ranges may be modified in the future.
