Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Quality Control Inspector to inspect railcar components, assemblies, and completed rail vehicles throughout the manufacturing process. This position is responsible for ensuring products meet engineering specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements by performing inspections at multiple stages of production.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a manufacturing environment and possess a strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to interpret engineering drawings, and experience using precision measuring instruments.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform quality inspections on railcar parts, components, subassemblies, and completed railcars throughout the manufacturing process.
- Conduct visual, dimensional, and mechanical inspections to verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Identify defects, non-conformances, and workmanship issues while documenting findings accurately and completely.
- Utilize precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, tape measures, combination squares, gauges, and other inspection tools.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, technical specifications, and work instructions to verify product conformity.
- Complete inspection reports, quality documentation, and inspection records with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Work closely with Production, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to communicate quality concerns and support corrective actions.
- Verify proper installation, fit, alignment, and assembly of mechanical and structural components.
- Ensure inspections are completed in accordance with company procedures, customer requirements, and applicable quality standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area while following all company safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of Quality Control inspection experience in a manufacturing, rail, automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment, or industrial environment.
- Ability to perform inspections independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong understanding of quality inspection techniques and manufacturing processes.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, tape measures, gauges, and other inspection equipment.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation.
- Proficient in the English system of measurement with the ability to learn and apply the Metric system.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic quality documentation systems is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience inspecting railcars, transit vehicles, automotive assemblies, aircraft, or heavy industrial equipment.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, AAR, AS9100, or other manufacturing quality systems.
- Experience performing first article, in-process, receiving, and final inspections.
- Familiarity with root cause analysis and corrective action processes.
- Experience working in Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement environments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in an active manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work on elevated platforms throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 40 pounds .
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and hard hat.
