Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus

A school in North Massapequa is seeking a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to support a student diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This role focuses on monitoring the student’s health, administering medication, and collaborating with school staff to ensure a safe and supportive environment throughout the school day.

• Regularly monitor the student’s blood glucose levels and respond appropriately to fluctuations.

• Administer insulin and other prescribed medications per the established care plan.

• Ensure timely and accurate medication administration .

• Communicate effectively with parents/guardians and healthcare providers about any changes in the student’s condition.

• Observe and assist the student with behavioral or physical signs related to blood sugar changes.

• Provide comfort and reassurance during hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic episodes .

• Collaborate with teachers and school staff to integrate the student’s care into their daily classroom routine.

• Maintain emergency contacts and supplies in an easily accessible and organized manner.

• Participate in care planning meetings and provide regular updates on the student’s status.

• Educate school staff on diabetes management and how to support the student’s condition safely and effectively .

• Active LPN License (New York State)

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification – American Heart Association
