Administer and supervise the total school program in the building to which they are assigned within the policies and under the administrative organization established by the Board of Education.

Be responsible to the State Education Department for compliance with state laws and regulations.

Be responsible for all professional and non-teaching personnel in their buildings.

Be involved in budget planning and operation.

Be responsible for curriculum within his/her own building and shall be aware of problems and changes in course offerings, to improve curriculum.

Be responsible for the evaluation of the overall school program, students, teachers, and supportive staff.

Act as chief administrative officer for his/her area of the educational program.

Administer general school policies and regulations as they apply to students, professional and non-teaching personnel in his/her building.

Be responsible for the organization, administration and supervision of his/her school; also, for the order and cleanliness of his/her building and grounds in conjunction with the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.

Be responsible for all children arriving on school premises and provide proper supervision for all children.

Be present for duty at least one-half hour before the opening of the morning session and remain as long after the close of school in the afternoon as may be necessary for the conferences with pupils, teachers, parents, administrators, etc.

Keep accurate inventories and records of books and supplies.

Keep such records and make such reports as directed by the Superintendent of Schools.

Make prompt reports of any neglect of duty upon the part of any employee.

Determine that fire, civil defense, and other safety drills are conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Education Law, the regulations of the Commissioner of Education and directives from the Board of Education or Superintendent of Schools which may be issued from time to time.

Take charge of all cases requiring severe discipline, subject to the advice/direction of the Superintendent of Schools.

Supervise all classroom and other instruction of all teachers under his/her charge and aid these teachers to make their work increasingly efficient.

Report all accidents and provide detailed data for those which occur on the playgrounds or in the buildings, causing injury to any pupil, employee or visitor.

Direct and supervise the work of such help as may be assigned to the building.

Direct and supervise an effective community relations program.

Delegate responsibilities to assistants, in accordance with their job description, and others as necessary.

Plan and direct Commencement activities.

Establish and supervise procedures for handling absences.

Establish and supervise procedures for preventing dropouts.

Provide for the supervision of all discipline cases, such as truancy, absence from classes, and school disturbances; and assign deterrents which may include after school duty.

Supervise discipline cases as:

Cases of law violation and police contacts.

Cases which might lead to expulsion or Superintendent's hearing.

Cases where newspaper publicity is expected.

Cases involving groups of pupils and school morals.

Provide alternative types of school programs.

Participate in selection of teachers.

Recommend to the Superintendent the assignment of teachers.

Supervise classroom instruction.

Direct in-service training program for teachers.

Assist new teachers in adjusting themselves.

Supervise all employees within the building.

Supervise substitute and practice teachers.

Direct pupil registration.

Be responsible for policy of classification and promotion of pupils.

Be responsible for pupil participation in school government.

Be responsible for maintaining conditions that will ensure a good pupil attitude.

Be responsible for guidance, counseling, and placement program.

Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading journals and publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.

Initiates and coordinates among staff the development of grantsmanship offerings in the private sector to provide resources in the improvement of curriculum and instruction.

Performs such other tasks and assumes such other duties as may from time to time be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
