On behalf of The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at Stony Brook Children's, CareerPhysician, LLC, the leader in academic pediatric executive search, has initiated a national search to identify a transformational thought leader on developmental and behavioral pediatrics to serve as the Division Chief of Developmental Pediatrics . The selected leader will be charged with developing strategies and innovative models of care and evaluation, coupled by multidisciplinary approaches to expand access for families throughout Long Island and Eastern NYC. Opportunity Highlights:
- The selected Chief will be charged with developing a vision and strategy that will foster a culture of collaboration and faculty development to impact all missions, with a focus on programmatic development and education of residents and ancillary staff to advance care and resources for children with developmental disorders.
- The DBP division is seeing patients in a new space with room to expand. The division moved into the Early Childhood Center (ECC) in 2023.
- Beyond meeting the demand for autism assessments and other DBP diagnoses, the incoming leader will have ample opportunity to expand services within the department of pediatrics and leverage the interest from partners in neonatal to support NICU follow-up, cardiology for cardiac neurodevelopmental care and adolescent medicine to provide support for help with autism evaluation in teens to grow the service line.
- Stony Brook Children's has a history of funding success for Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) training program and hopes to expand on this relationship in the future to the benefit of both the university campus and the hospital.
- Collaborations with university colleagues through the LEND program and other health professions training will improve clinical services while advancing the educational mission more efficiently than hiring all full-time professionals.
- The ideal candidate for this position is an early- to mid-career person with a strong record of excellent care and, ideally, experience in quality improvement. Having a QI approach and mindset will be helpful in promoting and adapting new approaches and models of care. Resources for internal and/or external Executive leadership coaching and mentor programs are available.

- The Dean has a goal of increasing the research presence of the medical school in all departments including pediatrics, with support from the dean's office for applicants with significant funding and requirements for research.
Required Qualifications :
- MD/DO Degree (or foreign equivalent).
- Board Certified in Pediatrics.
- Board Certified/Board Eligible in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics or Neurodevelopmental Disabilities.
- New York State Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of New York.
- A track record of professional leadership roles in an academic institution.
- Holds academic rank of Associate or Full Professor.
- Demonstrated experience in recruiting faculty and staff.
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring faculty.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and build innovative programs.
- Experience in Quality Improvement.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of professionalism, respect and civility with a population of faculty, staff and students from various backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so.
- Proven success in program development and faculty engagement.
