Ophthalmic technician

Position Title: Clinical Support Specialist – Ophthalmology
Location:  Rhinebeck, NY 12572
Schedule: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, 7 days/week
Dress Code: Navy scrubs

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and clinically competent professional to join our ophthalmology team. This role involves direct patient care and support for physicians and mid-level providers in a fast-paced clinical setting. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proactive approach to patient care, strong communication skills, and the ability to perform a variety of clinical tasks within their scope of practice.

Key Responsibilities:

• Clinical Support & Patient Care:

  • Demonstrate clinical competence in direct patient care within the ophthalmology practice.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms promptly and ensure a smooth flow of patient visits.
  • Assist physicians, mid-level providers, and nurses during exams and diagnostic procedures.
  • Perform authorized procedures such as vital signs, vision screening, and selected lab tests.

• Procedure & Equipment Management:

  • Prepare and process instruments and equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Process and label specimens accurately for transport to the laboratory, ensuring proper documentation in EPIC.

• Administrative & Communication Duties:

  • Prepare e-prescriptions for pharmacy processing as directed by the physician, in accordance with policy.
  • Communicate patient and family needs proactively and in a timely manner.
  • Seek guidance from clinical staff when necessary to ensure safe and effective care.

• Compliance & Standards:

  • Adhere to departmental standards, policies, and protocols.
  • Maintain current CPR/BLS certification and uphold safety and infection control standards.

Qualifications:

• Required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant entry-level clinical experience

• Preferred:

  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)
  • Prior experience in ophthalmology
  • Current CPR/BLS certification
