Managing Clerk
- Maintain an extensive knowledge of Civil Procedures and keep on top of new developments and changes in rules or modifications to statutes using resources such as Lexis Nexis, New York Law Journal, NY Digest, Siegel Practice Review, Court websites.
- Draft Statute & Rule Modifications Memorandums to Attorneys within the department.
- Develop relationships with vendors to facilitate expeditious retrieval of filed briefs, pleadings and decisions from Federal and State Courts.
- Ensure form files are up to date and advise Attorney’s filing procedures.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive library of Judges Rules for all Judges in New York State and Federal Judges. Ensure profiles of Judges are up to date so relevant background information can be given to Attorneys.
- Develop and maintain a library of out of State Rules for all US states and advise on case notes and various local jurisdiction rules.
- Maintain library of research materials including Second Circuit Redbook, guides to Civil procedure and various directories and manuals.
- Manage all cases including tracking of cases; updating case information such as court case number, assigned Judge and Magistrate; monitoring of deadlines and expected hearing dates.
- Produce weekly firm wide calendars and individual Attorney ‘ticklers’ to facilitate attorney case management.
- Manage internal docketing program (MA3000), entering case information and applying relevant Civil Procedure rules to generate calendar.
- Develop relationships with external vendors and negotiate terms for provision of service of Process with companies working on a Statewide, Nationwide and International basis.
- Monitor press and other resources for any news on pending lawsuits against clients and advise Partners and Attorney’s accordingly.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with key individuals in Court system

- Strong organizational skills and ability to juggle a number of different tasks and at times competing priorities.
- Self starter, keen take ownership of the role and develop it within the context of the service;
- Extensive experience of working in legal environment within a Managing Clerks office.
- Well developed network of contacts with vendors, within other law firms and within the Courts.
- Thorough understanding of legal system
- Law degree or other qualification in Federal & State Civil Procedure.
