Payroll Assistant – Business Office

Start Date: May 1, 2026

Horace Mann School seeks a Payroll Assistant to assist with bi-weekly payrolls for 400+ employees. This is a 12-month, in-person support staff position reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Human Resources. The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented, well-organized and have the ability to prioritize work in a fast paced, deadline driven environment. Candidate must also have the desire and ability to work independently in support of an effective team environment. The expected annual salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000, with the final determination based on experience, education level and other job-related factors.

Qualifications:

• Proficient data entry and Excel skills
• Strong interpersonal, communication and listening skills
• Must maintain a high degree of confidentiality, discretion and professionalism
• Bachelor’s Degree and prior office experience required
• Knowledge of ADP Workforce Now preferred
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy required

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Verify and enter salary information into ADP Workforce Now system
• Input and reconcile bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees
• Enter and verify deductions including benefits, direct deposit and tax deductions
• Update salary and benefits information and run specific reports as needed
• Respond to unemployment claims, IRS notifications, and other employee verification requests
• Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll
• Prepare journal entries for Accounting Department
• Assist with other projects to support the HR Department as needed
