Position Summary: The New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) Office of Food and Nutrition Services (OFNS) is dedicated to providing NYC’s 1 million students with access to healthy food choices with the highest nutritional standards. OFNS has a critical impact on the overall education of students. With over 8,000 employees and an approximately $550 million budget, the organization has a significant influence on the national school food industry and the eating habits of future generations.


In addition to day-to-day operations, OFNS is working on several initiatives that will add overall value to work performed and support high-level Chancellor and Mayoral initiatives.


The Shared Learning Specialist will lead projects that advance operational goals and strengthen professional development programs within OFNS. This role focuses on planning, implementing, and evaluating initiatives that support the growth of all levels of leadership within OFNS. The Specialist will manage timelines, coordinate resources, and monitor outcomes to ensure successful delivery of training and development programs that impact NYCPS and the broader New York City community. Performs related work.


Reports to: Kitchen Learning and Development Lead

Key Relationships: Foster relationships with school and OFNS administration, Kitchen Learning and Development team members, Cook Ambassadors, and Professional Development Managers. Build strong connections with regional and central staff, as well as external partners supporting healthy eating for NYC students.


Responsibilities

  • Plans, implements, monitors, and evaluates unit initiatives, providing important community services through the Office of Food and Nutrition Services.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of learning materials, toolkits and shared resources.
  • Coordinates internal and external resources, including subject matter experts, facilitators, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Monitors participation, engagement and outcome metrics to inform decision making and continuous improvement.
  • Leads end to end project management for professional development initiatives, including scope definition, timelines, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Travels throughout the 5 boroughs to lead professional development events, evaluate initiatives, and effectuate positive change for NYCPS communities.
  • Partners with OFNS leadership, HR field offices and operational teams to identify learning needs and ensure relevance.
  • Facilitates cross departmental collaboration with internal teams, City agencies, and stakeholders to promote shared learning, consistency, and best practices.
  • Serves as a connector between operational teams and leadership development efforts.
  • Supports with statistical analysis and predictive modeling to inform program strategies.
  • Prepares project evaluation tools and performs analyses related to the progress of programs.
  • Works cross functionally with all levels of leadership on a routine basis to provide the best outcomes regarding community and organizational needs.
  • Assesses existing operational programs related to Kitchen Learning and Development and plans related to public food services as well as other factors of community and organizational importance.
  • Assists with the rollout of major changes to school food services, including various operational Mayoral initiatives.
  • Provides technical assistance and training to affected staff in program implementation and management, including professional development workshops.

Qualification Requirements:


Minimum


  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience as described in “1” above.

Salary : $82,000 - $87,000


(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
