JOB DESCRIPTIONThe Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Union College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track adjunct Professor in Civil Engineering beginning September 2024. Union is a nationally ranked, undergraduate institution where engineering has been part of the curriculum since 1845. Union currently offers ABET-accredited degrees in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering. The department of Civil and Environmental Engineering was created in September 2023 and is actively working toward offering B.S. degrees in Civil Engineering & Environmental Engineering and ABET accreditation. This project is part of a strategic initiative, supported by a , to both broaden Union's engineering offerings and integrate the study of engineering and computer science with the liberal arts, inside and outside of the classroom, to benefit students across the College.
About the Position: We welcome candidates with a commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and mentoring undergraduates. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering currently possesses skills in the fields of geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, water quality and hydrology and is particularly interested in candidates working in the fields of construction management and/or transportation engineering. The new hire will teach courses in the curriculum as appropriate, including core classes and upper-level courses such as construction management and/or transportation engineering, as well as electives. In addition, there is an expectation that all new hires in the Department will teach at least one course annually to non-engineers ideally as part of the College's new Complex Questions/Global Challenges and Social Justice common curriculum. The new hire will also be heavily involved in the ABET accreditation process which includes opportunities for curriculum development and assessment.

All candidates must have an earned Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering; candidates close to finishing the Ph.D. will be considered. prosperous candidates will demonstrate the potential to advance a research program at Union College that involves undergraduates. Professional licensure (P.E) in Civil and/or Environmental Engineering is preferred but not required.

The income range for this job offer is $90,000 to $94,000, commensurate with practice.
