The Director of Student Involvement, Leadership, and Intercultural Engagement provides strategic leadership, vision, and administrative oversight for all programs, services, and initiatives that foster student engagement, leadership development, intercultural learning, and a vibrant residential life experience. This position oversees a broad portfolio including (but not limited to) New Student Orientation (NSO), First-Year Experience (FYE), student organizations, Student Government Association (SGA), club sports, Greek Life, intercultural programming, leadership development, and residence life operations.

Working collaboratively with campus partners, the Director ensures programming and services are inclusive, mission-driven, and aligned with national best practices in Student Affairs. The role includes responsibility for budget oversight, staff supervision, policy compliance, assessment, and strategic planning to advance student engagement and success.

Required Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive professional experience in higher education, with demonstrated success in student engagement, leadership, intercultural programming, and/or residence life.
  • Experience working with various student populations in an urban university setting is strongly preferred.

Primary Duties

  • Provide vision, leadership, and strategic direction for a comprehensive student engagement program that supports the overall campus experience and promotes community.
  • Oversee, develop, and assess co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and initiatives aimed at educating, engaging, and empowering a diverse student body; ensure programming fosters dialogue, service, inquiry, and leadership growth.
  • Develop, implement, and assess First-Year, Transfer, New Student, and Family Orientation programs (NSO); lead the design and evaluation of the FYE curriculum, including facilitator selection and training.
  • Oversee residence life operations, including residential programming, community building, staff supervision, and coordination of residential services.
  • Collaborate across University departments to deliver programs that enhance belonging, engagement, and student success.
  • Partner with faculty, staff, and students to plan, organize, and execute signature campus events, including Investiture, Commencement, and other University traditions.
  • Serve as the primary advisor to the Student Government Association (SGA) and provide guidance for student organization operations and initiatives in partnership with the Student Involvement Specialist; attend and oversee student-sponsored programs.
  • Train, monitor, and support student organizations and their leaders; provide fiscal oversight for student organization funds, including deposits, disbursements, and fundraising.
  • Build relationships with external partners to support campus-wide programs that develop student leadership and service skills.
  • Provide assistance for the behavioral intervention and student conduct systems, including education, adjudication, case management, and documentation, while promoting awareness of student rights and responsibilities.
  • Establish departmental priorities and manage budgets accordingly; ensure accurate tracking of income and expenses.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate professional staff, paraprofessional staff, and student employees.
  • Assist the administrative functions of the University's mobile ID program.
  • Serve as a member of the Student Life leadership team and contribute to divisional mission, priorities, and assessment.
  • Provide direct programming and services that enhance retention, persistence, completion, satisfaction, and student well-being.
  • Develop programs with measurable outcomes that align with the University's mission and values.
  • Remain current with local, regional, and national best practices in Student Affairs, incorporating trends into departmental initiatives.
  • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance in accordance with University expectations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Student Life, and by the Long Island Campus Associate Vice President of Student Life as needed.

Secondary Duties

  • Participate in campus, departmental, and University committees as assigned.
  • Collaborate with Brooklyn and Long Island campus colleagues to coordinate student services and programs across locations.

Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000
