Schedule: Monday – Friday, 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM. A consistent, daily commitment for this program schedule is required.

ABOUT THE ROLE

GINYC is seeking a Culinary Arts Specialist to inspire students in an after-school setting. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in developing a hands-on culinary curriculum that teaches kitchen safety, nutrition, and diverse cooking techniques. While Culinary Arts is the primary specialty, the Specialist is a key member of the program team responsible for facilitating core Girls Inc. curricula, providing daily homework help, and supporting the overall success of the after-school program . Through engaging, student-driven projects, you will help cultivate the culinary creativity and confidence of young minds.

The Culinary Arts Specialist is responsible for delivering programming five days per week in a GINYC DYCD OST (Out of School Time) program. The GINYC after-school program fosters and develops youth's overall wellness. Youth take advantage of opportunities to grow, define personal goals, and embark on their own journeys. Through unique and intentional programs, youth have opportunities to explore and advance in all areas of their lives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

● Serve as a well-rounded facilitator for the after-school program, seamlessly transitioning between specialized culinary instruction, core Girls Inc. programming, and daily homework assistance.

● Facilitate Girls Inc. direct service programs with groups of 15-20 youth in grades 6 through 8.

● Plan menus, manage a budget for ingredients, and adapt recipes for groups.

● Teach fundamental cooking skills, including knife safety, measuring, and how to follow a recipe, while maintaining strict kitchen safety and sanitation standards.

● Create an inclusive space that challenges gender stereotypes and is LGBT-friendly.

● Build strong relationships with youth, parents, community leaders, and school staff.

● Handle administrative duties such as daily attendance, reporting, and homework logs.

● Position requires flexibility, creativity, organization, energy, and passion for inspiring girls to be strong, smart and bold.

● A self-starter with the ability to work as a team player and foster cooperative work.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

● Minimum of 2 years’ experience facilitating for high school and/or middle school youth.

● Strong knowledge of kitchen safety, sanitation standards, and food handling guidelines.

● Background in partnering with schools, experiential learning and group facilitation with youth is a must.

● Excellent written and oral communication skills.

● Proficiency in basic math to support recipe scaling, nutrition lessons, and homework help.

● Effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, following positive youth development principles.

● Reliable, timely communication and ability to receive and provide constructive feedback.

● High School Diploma required. Associate's Degree or some college degree preferred in culinary arts, nutrition, hospitality, education, or a related field.

● Experience working in single-sex, gender equity programs is preferred.
