Newsroom Application Developer
Job Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the creation of newsroom tools that improve our journalism
- Contribute to the creation of digital stories and features that explore new forms of storytelling
- Collaborate with visual journalists, editors and our product, design and engineering teams to generate ideas
- Work with our analytics teams to pull together reports on various projects as needed
- Assist with maintenance and improvement of existing editorial tools
- Assist with graphics projects that require engineering rigor
Skills:
- A minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience in a media-rich digital environment is desirable
- Expertise in HTML, CSS and JavaScript, including back-end languages like Node.js and PHP
- Experience with Express.js, React, State Management Frameworks, Webpack and Gulp
- Experience with user analytics and testing
- Experience with building APIs and web services
- Knowledge of cross-device and mobile development
- Familiarity with producing wireframes with a good understanding of UX/UI design
- Able to work quickly and efficiently under tight deadlines
- Able to help reporters and editors learn new skills that will contribute to their interactive storytelling
- The initiative to take on and learn new tasks in a fast-moving environment
- Excellent communication skills
