Patient Care Technician (PCT) - Dialysis
Doral Dialysis Center is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Patient Care Technician (PCT)to join our growing dialysis team in Brooklyn, NY . In this vital role, you will assist in providing high-quality, hands-on care to patients undergoing hemodialysis, working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and Clinical Nurse Manager.
We are looking for someone passionate about patient care, committed to safety and compliance, and able to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and prime dialysis machines and extracorporeal circuits
- Record and monitor patients' vital signs and weight before, during, and after treatment
- Calculate fluid removal targets based on prescribed dry weight
- Monitor dialysis parameters and report any abnormal findings or symptoms to nursing staff
- Assist with initiating and terminating dialysis treatments under RN supervision
- Administer normal saline boluses as needed for symptoms like cramps or hypotension
- Obtain and prepare blood samples for laboratory transport
- Operate and troubleshoot dialysis machines and related equipment
- Check and monitor water system parameters, dialysate conductivity, and disinfect systems per protocols
- Ensure proper infection control practices and disinfection of dialysis machines and workstations
- Handle, store, and dispose of biohazardous waste and chemicals properly
- Assist patients with positioning, transfers, and mobility as needed
- Participate in emergency response situations and understand CPR protocols
- Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations for ESRD facilities and patient rights
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Certified Dialysis Technician (by state-approved or nationally recognized program)
- Current CPR certification (or must be obtained within 60 days of hire)
- Previous dialysis experience preferred
- Completion of a CMS-approved dialysis training program required
- Basic computer literacy and documentation skills
- Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively
